To determine if cervical rehab would be an appropriate treating you, we look at:
Posture: We look at your posture. Long term poor posture can change the balance/strength of the muscles and this can put added strain on your neck area.
Range of Motion: We check how far you can move your neck in a variety of directions. The results of this test will be noted so that your progress can be monitored during treatments.
Neurological screen: This part of the evaluation looks at your reflexes, strength in your neck, shoulders and arms. These test help determine which area of the neck may be causing problems for you.
Palpation: We will exam the soft tissues around your neck to check for changes in temperature or texture which could be a sign of inflammation or nerve irritation. We will also check for tender spots and muscle spasms in the neck and upper back.
After a thorough examination, we will put together a treatment plan for you. An average treatment session generally ranges from 25 to 45 minutes in duration. Treatment usually starts at 3 times per week for a period of about 6 months. The exact treatment plan will be individualized depending on the severity of your injury/pain.
