North Phoenix Chiropractor at Chiropractic Rehab and Neurology in Tramonto Talks About Core Stability and ROM

To test core stability and range of motion contact Chiropractic Rehab and Neurology in TramontoOne of the first steps in addressing core stability is to talk to the patient and go through a few basic test to determine the overall issues. Chiropractic Rehab and Neurology, your local chiropractic clinic in North Phoenix, would like to explain the five basic tests we use when looking and core stability.

Pelvic Alignment - First we check the pelvic alignment. Without realizing it many patients have a pelvic that tilts forwards or backwards and this can cause them to be more susceptible to lower back pain. We try to teach the patient how to maintain a neutral pelvic position to improve core stability and reduce potential lower back pain.

Finger to Toes Touch Test - This allows us to check the lumbar spine to check for rounding and allows us to check how the ilium moves on the femurs. If the patient is unable to touch their toes, we check for tightness in various muscle regions that may be helped through exercise.

Back Extension - We will have the patient raise their arms over their heads and reach back (having their arms cover their ears.) This allows us to check lumbar motion and there are mobility issues we can work with the patient to do exercises to improve flexibility.

Lateral Trunk Bending - We will ask the patient to bend laterally left, then right, while holding a 10-15 pound kettlebell or weight. By testing with a load it allows it more closely represents every day life of carrying books, grocery bags, etc. It allows  us to check the spine while under pressure. If the patient experiences pain while doing this, we will be able to check the spine to find the problem area(s).

Anti-rotation test - This test checks for pelvic or back movement when moving an arm or leg.

Only when all of the parts are working together will you find good core stability. By doing these simple test, it allows us to check for issues that may affect your core stability or range of motion. We work with you to suggest exercises that you can use to improve any areas found that have a deficiency.
